Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert, along with fellow Jacksonville rookies offensive lineman Will Rackley and cornerback Rod Issac were three of an estimated 150 rookies to attend a make-do version of the NFL rookie symposium on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The event, The Business of Football: Rookie Edition, was held at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. and takes the place of the aforementioned symposium, which has been effected by the NFL lockout.

Tania Ganguli of was at the event and was able to talk to Gabbert, the 10th overall selection of the 2011 NFL Draft.
“It was a great event they put on for us,’’ Gabbert said.  “We’re extremely thankful the NFLPA had the time to put this together for us. We learned a lot of valuable things here and had the chance to get to talk to Mr. Goodell and DeMaurice Smith just kind of about the situation going on right now.”
Mr. Goodell, aka NFL president Roger Goodell, and NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith were the two most noteworthy people in attendance.
“It’s a great sign,” Gabbert said of their appearance together. “They’re professionals. They’re professional men. They know how to handle situations like that. They can argue all they want in a closed room, but at the end of the day, they’ve got to go out and tell people how it is and be professional about it.”
Also in attendance was former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who talked about making the right decision. Burress was recently released from prison after shooting himself in the leg and violating a New York firearms law in 2008.
