ESPN’s Matt Williamson came out with a free-agency outlook for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.
The Scouts Inc. writer stated that the Jaguars have the most money amongst AFC South teams to make a big splash in free agency.
“It has to be all about defense for the Jags,” Williamson wrote. “I see their top three needs as linebacker, safety and defensive end, but adding a cornerback wouldn’t be such a bad idea either. In fact, they might need to add two starting-caliber linebackers to the equation. Offensively, the only position that could use addressing is wide receiver, where a bigger-bodied veteran would be useful.”
Williamson seems to have a good grasp on the Jaguars’ needs, although the team might look at just one linebacker because there likely won’t be enough time to go after every target once the NFL lockout ends, so the Jaguars might go after just one linebacker and perhaps one cornerback, if that.
Players that Williamson mentions for the Jaguars:
- San Diego safety Eric Weddle
- Oakland safety Michael Huff
- Tennessee defensive end Jason Babin
- Tennessee linebacker Stephen Tulloch
- Baltimore cornerback Josh Wilson
- San Diego receiver Malcom Floyd
All are free agents that Jaguars 101 has discussed before, aside from Wilson, and they all fill huge needs for the team, although I am skeptical of the Jaguars going after a one-year wonder at defensive end like Babin.
