The Jacksonville Jaguars will agree sign free agent offensive lineman Jason Spitz on Friday, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.
Spitz, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, is an interior lineman with the ability to play guard or center. With the Jaguars releasing Justin Smiley, this move makes sense and could pave the way for the Jaguars to look into releasing guard Vince Manuwai or center Brad Meester.
If Spitz does indeed sign with the Jaguars, he will be celebrated as a hometown hero. Spitz, 28, graduated from Jacksonville Bolles High before enrolling at Louisville.
Spitz is regarded as more of a natural center who gets the job done because of sheer effort and fundamentals.
