The Jacksonville Jaguars will embark on the second half of their season this Sunday when the Jaguars play the winless Indianapolis Colts.
At 2-6, the team's playoff hopes are out of reach at this point. So for the rest of the season, the Jaguars would be well served at concentrating on these areas in order to resolve some issues before heading into the offseason.
1.) Implement West Coast Passing Attack- The Jaguars' coaching staff has used a pretty archaic passing strategy because rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert and his lowly wide receivers limit what the Jags can do. Throwing in more roll outs and shorter passes can assist in using Gabbert's athleticism and giving him easy throws, high-percentage throws. Gabbert isn't going to get better until he gets more confidence and this is a good way to help with that.
2.) Give Cameron Bradfield More Playing Time- The rookie tackle can't be any worse than Guy Whimper, can he? Whimper clearly never was and never will be the future at right tackle. Bradfield has looked decent in limited time this season and the Jaguars would be well-served to get him some more reps to see if he's a guy that can grow into a starter.
3.) Force Cecil Shorts Into the Offense- Like with Bradfield, the Jaguars need to get a rookie more reps. But with Shorts, it's different. The wide out got plenty of chances early in the season but he's looked clueless. But the Jaguars spent a high draft pick on him and need to get him involved in the offense as a slot receiver to see if he can play in the NFL or not. It's not like the passing game can get much worse with him on the field.
4.) Move DuJuan Harris Onto the 53-Man Roster- The rookie running back from Troy looked real good this preseason and he might be able to offer the speed and wiggle that Deji Karim is lacking this season.
5.) Utilize Bigger Receivers- Get Kassim Osgood some reps at wide receiver, he's deserved more than just special teams reps. Newly added Brian Robiskie has potential too. If the Jaguars do go with a West Coast philosophy, bigger receivers make more sense.
