Draft Stock: Will probably head to the Houston Texans at #26, but woun't slip past the Minnesota Vikings at #35
Stephen Hill was a relatively unknown prospect prior to the 2012 NFL Combine. However, the gods of the Underwear Olympics smiled upon him as he turned heads by running a sub 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and blazing through the individual workouts. Now he is even creeping into the late first round on many mock drafts..
Hill went to school at Georgia Tech, which is infamous for run-centric triple-option offense and it's ironic slew of freakishly talented wide receivers such as Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas. Due to such an offense, Hill only caught 28 balls last year. However, he still managed to gain 820 yards, accruing and average of 29.2 yards per catch, which is practically unheard of .But with the lack of extensive game tape on him, he is an enigma.
+ Athletic Freak
What else can you call him? In true Geogia Tech fashion, he's 6-4 and he can run faster than most defensive backs. That woud be a matchup nightmare for any defense, especially if you have to account for a strong running game, like at Georgia Tech or in Jacksonville (hint hint). Imagine putting him on the other side of Laurent Robinson, who also ran a sub 4.4. That's just scary.
- Boom or Bust prospect
Before he tore things up at the combine, he was projected as a mid-round pick. and yet in the span of a week, he has become a hot commodity for teams in the late first round. One cannot be completely sure that he is going to just turn into the next Calvin Johnson almost immediately, if at all. He could be like Troy Williamson, who had the blazing speed but couldn't catch a cold or Matt Jones, who put up freakish times during the combine, but failed to deliver on multiple levels
6 catches, 151 yards, 1 TD vs. North Carolina.
