Everyone knows training camp is coming. Then before we know it the preseason arrives. Time to get on those football websites and register your fantasy teams ladies and gentlemen! Whether it's through the web, or in a live draft board with your friends, fantasy football 2012 is approaching for all of us. Jaguars 101 will have features on players in order to help give you a clearer view of what to expect for the upcoming season. We'll start off with Jaguars tight end, Marcedes Lewis.
Statistically, it's safe to say Lewis had a down year in 2011. Really, it's safe to say Lewis had a down year in general. Apparently, the Jaguars big tight end was battling some personal issues in his own life last year, which affected his play on the field. With lackluster stats in 2011 (39 rec, 460 yds, 0 TD's) Lewis was ranked 31st in fantasy production last year. That means, a lot of good tight ends were ahead of him. (Continue reading this post…)
I do think the Jaguars tight end will have a better year in 2012, but I don't think he should be drafted as your #1 tight end. The Jaguars passing game is revamped in 2012, and Lewis will be called upon to receive a lot more passes from Blaine Gabbert. Running 3 and 4 receiver sets more often should help Lewis get open in the middle of the field, creating more receptions and yardage.
My projection for Lewis for the upcoming season falls in between his 2010, and 2011 statistics. As I don't believe he'll reach the ten touchdown mark, I do think he'll score at least more than one. 50 receptions, 600 yards, and 5 or 6 touchdowns seems like a nice bounce back campaign for Lewis.
There are definitely more productive fantasy tight ends to draft before Marcedes Lewis for the upcoming year. Draft Lewis in later rounds, or pick him up as a Bye Week plug-in for your top tight end.
